Tom Hewitson

Director

Tom has over 14 years’ experience in the construction industry, having started with Ajax Building in 2009. Tom completed his Carpentry Apprenticeship in 2013 and went onto study a Diploma of Quantity Surveying at the Southern Institute of Technology. During this period he remained at Ajax, on the tools and in the office, giving him some valuable insights into the various areas of the construction process.

 

After graduating, Tom returned to full time work at Ajax, in the office in a Quantity Surveying and project management role.  He became a Shareholder of the business in April 2018 and Director in 2021.

Always keen to learn and develop, Tom completed his Design Level 1 license which qualifies him to design and draw small-medium size construction projects.

Tom’s wide range of skills and experience allow Ajax to be a one stop shop for their customer - design, draw, price, project management & construction.

In his free time you can find Tom at Waikaka Rugby Club where he is an avid supporter and volunteer.  Tom is also a member on the local Master Builders.

  • Nation Diploma in Quantity Surveying (Level 6)

  • Licensed Building Practitioner – Carpentry

John Delahunt

Director

John has over 40 years’ experience in the construction industry. He started his apprenticeship with Archer Building Contractors Ltd in 1980 completing it in 1984 then started work with Ajax, who took over the business from Archers upon Robin Archers retirement. He was made a leading hand in 1987, then a foreman two years later. In his time as foreman, he was involved in all areas of building: from residential houses and units to larger projects including schools, hotels, motels, rest homes, commercial and industrial buildings.


Since becoming a Director of Ajax Building in 1998, John has been the Works Supervisor on several large contracts that the company has completed for Fonterra, Alliance and Silver Fern Farms and Danone Nutricia. John is also responsible for co-ordinating and implementing Ajax Building Contractors Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

  • NZ Certificate of due Completion of Apprenticeship in Carpentry

  • Trade Certificate in Carpentry

  • Licensed Building Practitioner in Carpentry

  • Licensed Building Practitioner in Site 2

  • NZ Certificate in Construction Health and Safety and Injury Prevention

Shane Stevenson

Project Manager / Estimator

Shane joined the team at Ajax in 2019. He started his building career in 2005 and became a qualified carpenter in 2008 mainly focusing on residential projects.

 

Before starting at Ajax Shane spent 4 years working in the Trade Support Office at PlaceMakers Gore, this gives him a vast knowledge of specialist building products.

 

Shane’s role at Ajax is an Estimator/Project manager, he is also a Licensed Building Practitioner.

 

Outside of work he will be found exploring the outdoors with his young family.

  • Licensed Building Practitioner – Carpentry

Flynn Goodger

Quantity Surveyor

Flynn joined Ajax in October 2020 after having completed his Diploma of Quantity Surveying at Otago Polytechnic. He has a strong focus on proactively working with the client and sub-contractors to ensure the client is happy with the final product.

 

Always looking to evolve his skills Flynn is currently studying part time for his Bachelor of Quantity Surveying and Site Management and wishes to gain his design certificate down the track.

 

Flynn’s roll in the office is currently looking after small contracts and assisting Tom and Shane on pricing larger contracts.


Outside of work Flynn loves adventure racing and getting amongst the outdoors running, biking and kayaking.
