What’s a typical day like for you at work? And how do you feel about the work you do?

Every day, coming to work brings different exciting challenges to either manage or overcome, and I love it. Working with key clients who come in the door with commercial and residential projects from the concept stage to completion is what I enjoy. I also enjoy getting out on site to check on progress and help solve issues that may come up. I take great pride in what the Ajax Building team can achieve, and feel like I am always learning and challenging myself to do better in every project.

 

What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job?

I like to keep projects ticking along nicely. Sometimes, there is problem-solving to be done and decisions need to be made quickly. I have found I am particularly good at sorting workloads and ensuring clients and on-site staff / sub-contractors are well informed to make the build process more enjoyable for the client by way of a smooth build process.

 

What do you like/enjoy about your work?

I enjoy the challenge of commercial and residential projects, tight deadlines and keeping good relationships with our current and past clients. When I'm on site and I see the staff enjoying their day and everyone working as a team, I feel like we are going forward in the right direction. I also love giving back to the staff whenever I can in the form of social events and activities to get off-site and do some team bonding. It’s a great way to engage with some of the younger and newer crew and see them enjoying themselves outside of work, as we have quite a hardcase work crew.

Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about? Or what do you like to do outside of work?

I love a wee side project. Currently, my wife and I are working on bringing a small residential development to Gore and going through the process and challenges of bringing it to life. We have built 2 houses over the past few years and are always on the go. We have a son named Jack, and now we spend any spare moment we get playing and looking after him.

 

What’s a goal you have for yourself that you want to achieve?

My goal in life is to run a successful business that grows and creates wealth and opportunities for all of my staff. My goals outside of work involve creating quality family time for my wife and kids to live a comfortable life.
